So hurting here is where I belong, singing a song,
Blood on my hands to stay strong.
The flowers in the graveyard are all gone. I don't belong.
There is no right to heal the wrong.

'player name: Dunquareiel (Dun)
'contact: PM- Venea Zephyrius
'how you found us: I can't remember!
'other characters: Dunquareiel, Riley Black and Venea Zephyrius

'name: Claire Harley
'nicknames: Brat, Princess (it's best just to go with Claire)
'age: 18
'gender: Female
'race: Human with a bit of elf mixed in a few generations back
'sexual orientation: Heterosexual
'follower of: None officially
'occupation: Barmaid

'personality:
Claire is a very peculiar young woman by most standards. She is of modest birth and lacks the gentility which is most commonly associated with the fairer sex. It seems that she is simply ahead of her time, and few people consider her progressive beliefs and outgoing (often aggressive) behavior a positive thing. She is certainly not afraid to speak her mind, and often fails to consider the consequences of her bold statements and occasionally caustic sense of humor. Most of her actions result in harsh criticism, which has made her somewhat rebellious.

"Well that's just not lady-like at all. . ."
This is not a recent development. Claire's parents raised her to question authority and learn as much as she could, but their attempts to ensure that she was always respectful when doing so missed the mark slightly. As a child she was rather shy and usually sweet around strangers, but she was like a fiery, mischievous imp around her family and close friends. She has never been one to get into much trouble (she's not an idiot and doesn't behave badly just for the sake of getting attention), but she definitely enjoys challenging common beliefs and codes of conduct. Claire's naturally curious and has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, but she's not a timid scholar. She's relentless when pursuing something she wants, and now that she's reached adulthood, there isn't much anyone can do to change her ways or her mind.

"No one likes a woman who doesn't know when to hold her tongue. . ."
Even in Istien, her home, Claire is usually looked down upon for her lack of lady-like manners. It is a city of great knowledge and progress, but there are still more old-fashioned, uptight people than revolutionaries in most places. Still, there are some places where Claire can find people who share her beliefs and appreciate her humor and attitude. She loves to escape her daily routine to enjoy their company. When they find their way into her workplace, The Wild Stallion, she often pulls herself away from her job to debate and have some intelligent conversation. Of course, allowing herself to be distracted gets her some rather long lectures about responsibility.

"You'll never get anywhere in life if you can't get your head out of the clouds. . ."
It is not hard to believe that Claire greatly desires a life that has more opportunities and meaning than the one she's currently living. Working as a barmaid in Istien, especially with the current state of the government, doesn't provide enough entertainment as she would like. She finds it suffocating to be stuck in her current situation, and she wants a way out of it more than anything else. Claire strongly believes that she is capable of great things, and she wants desperately to find a purpose that carries more meaning than serving drinks.

"Affection is desirable. Money is absolutely indispensable. . ."
One of the things that really bothers Claire is being criticized for not having a husband and her own family. Women in her position are expected to marry young and usually for money. Because her family is not what one would consider rich, most people think that it is absolutely essential for her to marry into a more financially stable family. People around her are almost constantly complaining about her being too picky, and they often claim that she is wasting her good looks (she refuses to think that she is anything more than average in the looks department). Some of her favorite comments are the ones about her becoming a poor old maid living on the streets. She's convinced that she'd be able to manage without a husband, but no one else seems to agree.

"I love you. . ."
She's heard it more than a few times, and she usually just laughs. Claire has been admired by quite a few men, but she never takes them seriously or returns their affection- hence why people often say that she's too picky. Because of this, she's earned a reputation for being impossible to please. These days most guys that fancy her are too intimidated to pursue her. For someone that's as logical as Claire, it's strange to think that she could be very romantic. She'd never admit it, but she really is waiting for a guy to sweep her off her feet. She refuses to accept anything but the best, and she'll wait forever for the right guy to come along if she has to. Her idea of the right guy isn't exactly set in stone, but she's convinced that she'll know who he is when she finds him. Until then, she prefers to skip the short-lived romances.

"Adan- the finest duchy in Meliora. . ."
Claire's always been rather cynical (the more she learns about the world, the more disenchanted she becomes), and that's only become worse recently due to the current political situation. As a resident of Adan, she's had the issues shoved right into her face, and she isn't happy about it. Although she hasn't quite made up her mind, Claire could be classified as an imperial loyalist. What she believes to be the truth about the current king, she likes. Caius and Cato's recent actions have only served to convince her that the Lucius family is absolutely vile. If she was financially stable enough to get the hell out of Adan, she would leave immediately. Unfortunately, she isn't. She's stuck in the middle of the Lucius' mess, and she's not happy about it at all.

"Without the gods, we mortals have no hope. . ."
As far as the deities go, Claire is respectful but she prefers to stay out of the religious junk (as she calls it). Really she just doesn't know enough about magic and the deities to make an educated decision about which god/goddess to follow. She would probably make a good mage (she can be extremely loyal if one earns her trust, and she's clearly ambitious enough to serve her deity well without causing too much trouble), but going from a barmaid to a mage seems like a ridiculous dream to her.

"Well, at least she's friendly. . . usually. . ."
Although Claire isn't always the most light-hearted or gentle person in Meliora, she is very friendly for the most part. She makes casual friends very easily (though she rarely remembers how she manages to become friends with people), and can carry on a conversation without difficulty. Although she loves her alone time and is very introspective, she would definitely be classified as outgoing. Her smile is infectious, and her humor often attracts all sorts of people. . . even if it is occasionally sadistic and almost always sarcastic.

"Talk to Claire. She'll know what to do. . ."
People that appreciate Claire's personality often go to her for advice. She's a very loyal friend, and could easily take a secret to the grave without ever telling another soul. She can be a bit blunt, and occasionally hurts peoples' feelings by failing to be sensitive to their issues, but her advice is always good.

"That's one lady you do NOT want to mess with. . ."
Because Claire is a very confident and blunt person, she makes a really terrible enemy. Aside from criticizing her (mostly when they think she isn't listening), few people dare to do anything that will anger her. She doesn't look for confrontations to enjoy, but she certainly isn't afraid of them. If someone does something that Claire doesn't like, she'll address the situation immediately, and it won't be very pleasant. Luckily this has taught people just to avoid making an enemy out of her. Claire's life is almost conflict-free these days as far as enemies go. She's just at war with herself and her situation.

Haley Bennett

Most would consider Claire to be rather beautiful, but she doesn't think her looks are particularly impressive. She recognizes that her features are a bit different from the norm, but she thinks she's average at best. Some days she will feel very pleased with her appearance, but other days she won't even look at herself.

It is rather easy to see that there is some elvish blood in Claire. Her facial features are rather soft, and her skin is very fair. Her eyes are a stormy blue in color, generally appearing dark though the sun can make them look like a light shade of grey. They are strangely almond-shaped and framed by long lashes. Her eyebrows are full, but femininely arched and set rather high. Her nose isn't anything special. It is straight and turns up slightly with a delicate point at the end. Her pink rosebud lips are smaller than most, but they are full and naturally pouty. The smile that often crosses her face is one of her most noticeable characteristics. The hair upon her head is brown, though the summer sun often turns it into a more golden color. She prefers to keep it long, almost down to her elbows, but she often ties some of it up to prevent her wild curls and waves from interfering with her work.

In the last few years, Claire has grown into a petite but womanly frame. She is not very tall at about 5'5", and she is neither thin nor overly voluptuous, weighing about 135 pounds. Her curves are nothing to boast about, but they form a balanced hourglass silhouette and are noticeable. Although her appearance is not something she is very concerned about, Claire does dress in a way that compliments her body. Her garments aren't particularly impressive (they usually consist of very average fabrics in bland colors), but they serve their purpose. She is usually seen in a practical dress of some sort and an apron.

Claire isn't very graceful in her speech or manners, but she carries herself with confidence and grace. She would make a fine dancer if she had any interest in that sort of entertainment, but she doesn't.

'history:
Claire's past isn't very interesting. She hasn't experienced any great tragedies, her parents are still together, alive, and well, and she's never done anything exceptionally scandalous. She was born in a small village near Istien and moved to the scholar city when she was five years old. She has a brother that is twenty-three years old named Peter. He serves in the imperial army's infantry and lives in Imperial City.

Her parents are affectionate people who sincerely love their children and care for each other. They were married when her mother was only fourteen years old and her father was nineteen. They moved to Istien with their children when they purchased The Wild Stallion, and they have run the tavern since then. Business has been fairly good for them, but their income isn't very impressive. Claire has worked as a barmaid since she was twelve years old, and it seems that she will continue to do that for a long time.

She is primarily self-taught due to her parents' inability to pay for a proper education. Luckily it is never difficult to find information in Istien. By keeping an open mind and vigilantly pursuing knowledge, Claire has managed to become well-informed about a variety of subjects. She is able to read rather well, and she can speak very articulately for a common woman.

'other:
-Claire has a very good singing voice, but she has never received any training and does not wish to pursue a career as an entertainer. Sometimes she will entertain the visitors of The Wild Stallion with a song, but she's deathly afraid of singing in front of small crowds. It's too personal for her, and she feels more self-conscious knowing that those few people are paying such close attention to her. The bigger the crowd, the easier it is to ignore the fact that they're all listening closely.

-Claire has not seen her brother for about two years, but she writes to him fairly often.

Father: Robert Harley, 43, owner of The Wild Stallion
Mother: Adrianna Harley, 38, co-manager of The Wild Stallion (often handles the room arrangements)
Brother: Peter Harley, 23, infantryman
